A quick question for you. I have a 300mm f4 L IS if I buy a set of kenko ( are these the best) extension tubes will it give me the same optical quality as a Sigma/Canon 100/150/180 macro
Absolutely Rob, I often use that very combo (non IS), gives a great working distance. Yes the Kenko tubes are the ones to go for, cheaper as a set than a single Canon tube and much more versatile...
I got mine off of Ebay HERE .I got them within 2 days which is superb seeing that it comes from Hong Kong (but it may take longer ?).Oh and as you can see they are alot cheaper.
(mods if i'm not aloud to put in a link then please delete ?)
Hi Barry they should do they work with my 500 and 800 but in nikon fit the only thing you have to remember with tubes is that make sure the hole in the tube is bigger than the rear element of the lens you're using them on otherwise it can cause vignetting.

I bought these Kenko tubes and they do not work with my Canon 300 F2.8 IS, or 70-200 F2.8 IS. They only seem to work with my 100mm macro.
Sorry to be a downer, but I find it quite hard to believe that a 300 F4 will be as sharp as a pure Macro. Would love to see a comparison if anyone has one.
Send them back Elliot, because they do work on both these lenses, along with 400/2.8LIS.
The bluebell shot was taken using them attached to a 70-200 2.8LIS
Vignetting seemed to be a problem when I used a 500/4.5L +1.4 +tubes, but soon vanished when stopped down a stop or so
