Common Seal
"What is that prat up to - I've bagged the best rock in the bay and really don't want to have to get back in the water."

As is usual in Orkney, been surrounded by seals for a fortnight. A group of about twenty constantly in this bay - both greys and common. Great fun to snorkel with but sadly didn't have any decent UW camera gear with me.

What an expression, classic

Malc, I looked into getting this lens, how do you find it? And with TC?

Regards,

Des

Hi Des

The 120-300 is not the lightest of lenses but it is sharp, has an excellent max aperture and I find the zoom range useful. It seems to work rather well with the Sigma EX TC. I have used a Nikon 80-400 VR for the past couple of years, which was certainly light but was limited to 400 as a TC wasn't a practical option. I find that the 2.8 aperture of the Sigma more than compensates for the lack of image stabilisation. I can't justify the cost of a Nikon 300 2.8 VR so this makes a good, cost effective compromise.

Cheers

Nice shot and expression. Good atmosphere too - grey seal, grey water, grey day - that's how the N. Sea has been for me this year.

Hi Malcolm, a bit on the grey side, but a great expression on the seals face :wavey:
