Emerald Creek Cascade | Take 3
Slightly different angle here....

What I am looking for from you is if the right side works or not.....I am thinking it's too tight and that I should have left more room for water to flow around that rock.....

thanks for the comments and critiques....the water level up here now is nice and low...may be a good place to go explore in the next couple days....

My comp skills aren't real well developed but I'll put in my 2 cents worth... maybe a little more room on the right but not so much that it leads the eye away from all the goodies in the middle. :toast:

Yeah, I can see a little more room on the right being a good thing. That doesn't bug me nearly as much as the perceived rotation - looks to me to be about 2 degrees too far CCW. Of course, its hard to tell if that would make it worse or not, I could see how it could bad.

Ya know, if it is this tight, often I'll simply do a crop from the Right side so that the water is a clean flow and the rocks don't have small gaps on the Right (weak side). Cropping 1 inch from the Right fixes this issue with that rock PLUS it removes the verticle log further up/below the large mossy rock from the shot as well - which cleans the RIght side up a lot.... for me atleast

Hmm... as much as i don't like recomposing another photographers take on a scene and since i wasn't present at the time of capture i'll offer my un-biased brutal critique with apolgies implied.... Hike all the way back in and re-shoot this from a higher perspective overlooking the lower right boulder as a major foreground subject and lose the busy forest in the background!. The varied speed of the water flow doesn't work for me on this one...too busy up-front and way soft on the back end.

Ha ha.....Larry...one I can do everything you mentioned except change the speed of the water....that's not in my hands......

I probably will go back up there in the next few days and as the water is much lower now, everything will be different. could be fun to play around and go back all the way to the falls at the top.....

Thanks guys......as for the rotation Bryan.....this has not been rotated at all....I can try what you say and see what happens....who knows.....Thanks for the comments!

I like it Darren, I think keeping the entire log on the left hand side is important.
