I'm just getting back from a six-day blitz trip to RMNP Trail Ridge, Shrine Ridge, the San Juans (including Stony Pass, Ice Lakes, American and Yankee Boy Basins) and Crested Butte (including Robinson Basin, Washington Gulch Road, Paradise Pass and Gothic). I will post some more pics to my Web site when I have film developed.

Just got to say that the fog in Crested Butte yesterday morning was so ridiculous I wondered if Todd Caudle was in town. Above are a few digital snapshots from Washington Gulch Road (I hope to have some better stuff on film). Did anyone else see this? Man, I think I'm going to owe Todd some major cloud rent money.

Great photos. How was the Ice Lakes basin in terms of flowers? I plan on going there next weekend.

Thanks Momo. The lower Ice Lake basin has a lot of flowers especially near the water runoff. There are good concentrations of larkspur, parsnip and columbine there. The upper basin seemed a bit thinner to me than in past years, not a lot of paintbrush there at all now. There are however some yellow buttercup-like flowers and a few patches of parry primrose and marsh marigold on the shore of the upper lake. Have fun!

I was also up there this weekend. Some great fog. As an aside, Rustler's Gulch still had some great flowers on the 2nd half of the hike, although most of the area is kind of burned out down low from the heat. I'm thinking all of the rain this weekend might freshen things up a bit though. Cliff Creek's flowers were "ok" in a couple of meadows but the horse traffic has the trail so beat up I wouldn't consider it worth the trip compared to Rustlers.

I got up to CB Saturday about 9pm in pouring rain. There was a great lightning show over West Beckwith mountain that I hope I captured. I ended up driving up to Paradise divide about 10:30pm after the rain stopped but in the fog -- not the smartest thing I've ever done. Sunday morning dawned clear with fog hanging on the mountains. There were a lot of elephant's head by the paradise pond plus other scattered flowers. Didn't really go anywhere else up there.
