Here's one from the sonora pass area from last week. While Lon and Preston were shooting the flowers I noticed some granite on the hillside behind us, so feeling the need for an overview I hiked up to it. Being new to the area and just trying to scope it out, the images I brought back are more point shoot like. Anyways, I don't know if I've got the contrast quite right here or not, a bit muddy perhaps?

It was great to meet up with Preston again and meet Lon.

WOW, a really nice view from here, Cory. I really like the placement of the tree on the granite outcropping in this scene too.

Hey Cory,

Yeah, it was great meeting you as well. I was impressed with your willingness to drive for well over 4hours for a 6hour visit! Thanks for meeting up with us. I'll look forward to perhaps a fall get together on the East side in October.

You've posted a beautiful landscape here. Certainly worth that "little" hike for this view. I think the contrast is perfect; doesn't look muddy to me at all. I love the tree as well. The only tiny nit is that I would like to have seen just a bit more on the left - but that's picking...

Did you get anything that showed some cloud movement like you mentioned you were trying to get?

This is real nice Cory! I have no qualms about the contrast. The tonalities look real nice to me.

It was great to see you, as always!

Hi Lon! I did crop this some from the left. However I do have a shot with the tree on the right and the view to the left. I'll work that up so you can see the view towards the pass(looking left with respect to this image).

Unfortunately I didn't get any cloud movemtent, at least, not enough to really emphasis it. I'll have to get some darker nd filters at some point!

Paul: thanks for the comment. It was an impressive view from a nice wide granite ledge. It was a great day to be there!

Cory, I really like the contrast, and the treatment in B/W.

now I'm really kicking myself for not meeting up. This looks like the Tenaya Lake overlook in Yosemite.

Looking with my laptop, I like the contrast, especially in the sky and mountains, but it feels like the black level could be lowered, your black pines look dark grey on my screen and I have the impression the darkest spots should hit pure black.

The 2nd thing is though the comp is nice, I feel the tree does not stand out enough, especially the folliage on the left vs the background texture of the hills. That could be an artefact of the small photo that turns details into noise and my screen though...

Thanks for the comments PB and Dan!

Dan, you're right about the tree not standing out. I was hoping to do just that, but it was cooperating with my time constraints. :frown: Though I think I might have one looking to the left that may stand out better. I'll try and work up a few more from that afternoon.
