I know that technically this shot sucks big time. But I like it.. It is to blown out by the bright sky etc. But, May 22 at 1pm we were outside Charleston, SC with a bright white sky caused by the fires in Georgia when I saw this Snowy Egret wading near where the Alligator was rising up from the muck. It was shot at 1/250, F/20, ISO 400, zoom at 135MM. Right after I shot this the Egret was out of there for parts unkown.

That gator is giving the egret the dinnertime eye! Good timing to catch this scene. Sure is lots of green. I cannot tell if the green cast on the bird is just reflected light or what.
There was definitely a lot of bright/light green. The sun was directly overhead with nothing but a white sky from the smoke. The green on the egret is reflection from the muck. The bird was pure white and just as surprised as I was when the alligator came up and headed his way. It's one of those shots where you just wish the lighting had been better.
Tom, Yes, I did hear a couple of them hiss when I was way to close to them for my comfort zone. I just thought it was a critique of my camera skills !!!! I recommend a loooong lens for these suckers. I had no idea they could move as fast as they do.

You captured a nice moment in tough conditions Merle. I like the "smile" of the gator, kind of saying ... Snuck up on you didn't I?
