Hi all,

Perhaps this has been addressed a few times, but i don't frequent this forum and my search results didn't yield many finds.

My sister and I will be traveling to the Seattle area Sept. 22-29. She's been there before (not a photog), but I haven't. We want to do all the typical touristy things, but i'd like to be able to turn those touristy things into mini photo sessions without it feeling like i'm dragging her along. For example, I'd like to take a ferry around sunset so that we can 1) take good pictures, 2) get dinner on the other side of the water, and 3) see pretty things on the ride.

I would like to ask for some help in planning my trip to maximize the time we have and do the touristy things (there's no way she's going to join me on a 4am, 2 hour hike to the ideal ssunrises spot) combined with great photo ops. at ideal times.

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. I would need ideal photo times, locations, sample pix or websites where i can view the places you are telling me about, and any other handy tidbits. Also, any recommendations on Seattle books for photogs?

THANKS A BUNCH!!

Edmonds is nice, and there is a ferry terminal there.

Mukilteo also has a ferry terminal, and a great little lighthouse:

If you have time, Mt. Rainier is always a good bet:

For the cliche shot of Seattle, go to Kerry Park:

Or better yet Jose Rizal bridge:

Snoqualmie falls is nice:

And the list goes on. WA has tons to see.
I hope this helps you plan your vacation. Have fun!

Darien,

Thanks for owning up to the maniplated "cliche shot" of Seattle and the full moon. It is gorgeous, and I never would have known!

Amy, I took a day trip to Mt. Ranier and it was such a cloudy rainy day, we never saw the mountain, but I got some woonderful shots of falls, scenes, and macros!

Darien,

Thanks for all your links. The Seattle shot with the moon was beautiful! I'd never have known it was manipulated either.

Is there a "cliche" fall colors shot I should take in the Seattle area? I don't mind the cliche shots, as my family and friends likely haven't seen them.

Umm, I think a lot of people head to the arboretum for that, or maybe the Japanese Gardens. Not super sure though, as I've only shot one fall so far.
If you head up over highway 2 near Stevens Pass, there's lots of pretty things to see and shoot during fall.
