Hi Jac, see you too have migrated :-)

Pitty you cropped the tip of its legs off at the foot, sorry no pun intended. Perhaps a bit more DOF might have helped? Was it actually on the wood or did you place it there?

Hi Steve

Yes I migrated over here a few weeks back but I dont post very often :-)

The wood is an old loose log which I use to feed the birds so when my Husband moved it to cut the grass he spotted it and called me over, He picked it up and placed it on the log but to be honest it moved so fast that I didnt realise that I had cropped the feet till I put it on the computer, I did get another couple of shots which I have posted on the other forum but I think that this is perhaps the better of the Three.

Hi Jacqui - maybe not the prettiest beastie around, but the world wouldn't function well without him & his friends.

I'd like to have seen a bit more room all round it - it feels quite tight in the frame.

Thank you Malcolm & Nick

Yes Nick I agree with it being tight in the frame I am new to photography in general I have only had a camera since January, I have just been visiting a photographer friend who explained full frame to me as I had always been cropping my images, So I guess I was kind of trying to fill the frame, in this case a little too much

Jacqui

Practice practice practice..... but hopefully not on too many ugly looking beasties

Great image Jaqui :toast:

Just keep your eye on the VF frame edges next time

Handsome and important beast, as said shame about the clipped feet, and a touch more DoF, you haven't given techs so hard to comment properly.

For me I would have given more space around and probably framed more on the diagonal.

These beasts are quite rare around here. Not much old oaks is the problem. Apart from already mentioned tightness, it's a fine photo.

I prefer the second, eye-level, shot- nice clean background, enough DOF, and all in the frame. I'd love to see one of these.
