Larus marinus
..or Great black-backed Gull.

Taken at Skomer a few weeks ago. Harsh lighting has meant heavy shadows but I haven't any other shots of these in flight, so it'll do.

Comments appreciated

Good grief - you had some sunlight! I didn't think anyone would get anywhere near that shutter speed in the UK this year .

A fine flight shot. Did you see any of them harassing the Auks?

beautiful image, i don't think the shadows or harsh light matter, you've handled it very well. love the bg.

Cor blimmey - what a shot G :toast: :toast: :toast:

If it were me shot (if only!!!) I'd clone the slightest bit of extra canvass on the left just to loosen that wing tip from the frame edge.

Very impressive Graeme :wavey:

Like it loads depite the harsh light.... you may be able to rescue a bit more detail in the underside shadow with a second conversion layered and masked, just a thought...

Very nice image, Grame. I'm not to keen on the harsh light but the pose is fine :wavey:

Wow, although it is rather contrasty it does not seem to matter is this case and the shot is very appealing and very sharp too.

Exposure's been handled well here. Sometimes deep shadows make for better modeling and give us a more 3d look.
I like the shot, although GBBG's are not a favourite subject
