As some of you may know we've been suffering floods down in the Thames Valley and we in Purley-On-Thames have been under a severe flood warning for the last week. After moving everything upstairs, getting the cars parked somewhere safe (thanks Mike) and putting the sandbags in place I wandered around trying to get some record shots. This is one that I managed to get yesterday when the flood "peaked" apparently. I am posting the image not for comment really but just to share because I like it . I know it still needs some processing (my main processing computer is in bits upstairs). This was done on an uncalibrated laptop using Lightroom (which I haven't used before). The technical details are:
- Camera: Canon EOS 1D Mk IIN
- Lens: Canon 17-40mm L @ 40mm
- Aperture: f16 +1/3
- Shutter Speed: 1/320s
- ISO: 640
- Metering: Evaluative
- Exposure Control: Aperture Priority
- Camera Support: Handheld
- RAW Conversion: Lightroom
- Post Processing: Some Lightroom processing
Hi Adrian, nice envio shot - very sorry to hear about your water-problems. Even over here the water has been incredible, my basement have been under water for now 3 weeks....
Hello Adrian
Hope you're beginning to dry out a little now. I suppose this is how the area would have looked before we started canalising the rivers and building on all the flood plains. Good image for the record books.
Best wishes
Phil

Thanks everyone - thankfully we didn't flood - some of our neighbours weren't so lucky
One thing I think this image does is show a very good reason why we shouldn't build on flood plains and why my next house is going to be a) somewhere dry and b) on the side of a hill (as Andy suggested )

Thanks - Mind you if we had flooded I'd have floated away serenely like an enormous beached whale
We were a lot luckier than the people in Gloucestershire. My thoughts are with them at the moment. I hope it gets better for them quickly.
Adrian
Buy a house on a hill next time - can't go wrong
Just makes me wonder how much wildlife has been affected in all these floods
Nice shot of a water meadow
cheers, Helge
