In september, I plan to spend two weeks between Norway and Sweden It will be a long and adventurous trip, more than 9000 km with my car, from Italy to North Cape, Norway.
Which places would you recommend?
So far, I've found these places that looks pretty interesting:
after THAT much driving you'll find southern Norway even MORE nervwrecking to drive as you'll contantly drive up hills/mountains, tunnels (toll!) and wait for ferries (toll!) to get across the countless fjords!!! It is a looooong way to the N-Cape. ALWAYS have your money pocket ready as you have to pay, pay, pay (camping, toilets, tunnels, ferries, highwys, city-toll etcetcetc...) but it is such a wonderful country! I would suggest to drive up through the middle (in sweden on the highways, and take the long way down) (in our opinion, the very best way to get north is to drive (via highway 9/Berlin) to Rostock, take the 30h Superfast Ferry to Helsinki (not expensive if you don't take a cabin) and drive up through Finland and Sweden MUCH faster, MUCH easier)
North cape will be freezing cold in late sep. Sep is extremely nice in Lapland as the whole country turns into wild colours. I suggets Absiko Ntl-Park, Story Sjofallet, Rago and Oulanka and Lemmenjoki NP in Finland, if you can make it there.
Preikestolen is a famous one, hike up there in the dark before sunrise, it is an early morning location. (easy 2h hike with headlamp) - NOT adviseable for people with vertigo, the walls drop easy 3000ft, the trail is on overhanging terrain and there are NO fences anywhere. there are a few locations like that and you will see them on all the postcards in Norway...
If your schedule allows it, check out the Lofoten Islands, it is , again, a looooong drive out there, but such a wonderful place on earth...
well, all in all having spent a little time up there, our favorites to photograph is ALL of Lapland in mid Sep. you'll love it.
Juza,
I will stay in Norway the next weeks, its my 3.drive in that wonderful country. It is a very long way to the nordcap if you will drive near the westcoast but there is the greatest landscape. You can drive much quicker through Sweden or Finland but you will find the greatest landscapes near the Fjords. You will find also wonderful places in South-Norway like the Jostedalsbreen NP, The Jotunheimen NP, the Dovrefjell NP or the Landscape of Trollheimen.
Have a nice trip
Klaus
Juza, If I was going I would be immersed in reading everything I can get my hands on about Norway and Sweden. Best of all, I would try to watch as many travel videos of those countries if those are available. Finding a local guide who shares an interest in photography would be a boon. Probably you have thought of all this already.

You don't have any space left in your car, do you? I'd say you'd love Lofoten, Dovrefjell but it all depends on how you'll be driving to North Cape.
Hi Jasper,
thanks for your suggestion The Lofoten islands will be for sure on my list
If you want to join the entire trip or even few days, you are welcome :-)
You just need to be a little adventurous - I plan to sleep in tent (or in my car is the weather is really bad), and I'm going to wake up always at sunrise.
By the way, does anyone know where could I photographer the Drosera anglica (English sundew) in Norway and Sweden? I am a fan of carnivorous plants and it would be great to photograph this species since it does not live here in Italy ;-)
Hi Juza,
in Norway the weather is not bad only different. We had warm days (near 30 grd. celsius) but also snow in August. If the weather is very different you will find cabins (huetter) on the most camp grounds. If you choose a huetter without shower and WC (you use the campground shower) the price is not too high for a warm and dry night.
I would not recommended the Trollstiegen and the Geiranger Fjord, nice places but with a lot of tourists. I drive to Norway next weekend and will back end of August. I use the ferrie from Kiel to Oslo and first I will visit the Fjords between Bergen and Trondheim. But if there is too much rain I will go to Rondane NP. In the East Norway it is much dryer than on the west coast.
