Canon 1D MKII, 300mm f4 IS, extension tube set, Manual focus, handheld, f5, 1/200, ISO 320.
Hi All,
I got my extension tubes in the week and today was the first time I have had a play with them (as the big warm thing in the sky decided to show ). I'm really after advice as to the best way to use them. I took this image in my garden with all three tubes stacked, is this the norm?? Will they give me a 1:1 with the 300mm on flies etc??
Any help/advice on the best way to use these tubes with a 300mm would be greatly appreciated, right I'm going over the road to watch the Barn Owl's
Your best bet is just to use whichever tube, or combination of tubes, give you the working distance/magnification that you require.
The more tubes that are attached the greater the light loss, so it's always preferable to use the minimum amount of extension needed.
I use the set of three 12mm, 20mm and 36mm Kenko tubes and use them singly, altogether or in various combinations really depending on the result I wish to achieve.
Justin has put it well, chose whichever, or a combination that will give you the result you are after, I'm not sure on the close focus on the IS but I think you should be closish with the full set of tubes.
