In early July my brother and I were able (after a couple tries) to get a permit to North Coyote Buttes, on a day forecast to be 109 degrees. So we left the trailhead at about 4:30 AM and arrived at the Wave just as the sun came up. My favorite shot of the Wave was one taken before the sun hit the area, it is a different look than other photos I've seen.

We also hiked around the surrounding area for a few hours and found the some more great scenery

The thing I love about this area is the reflected light on the sandstone that creates that great glow.

Really nice collection, Scott. The first 3 are especially striking, and the first is my favorite.

Thanks everyone for our comments. I was really surprised about the areas surrounding the wave. I haven't really seen other photos of the area besides the 2 "waves" so it was a treat to explore and shoot, despite the heat.

14 repliesAt 109 deg, somebody could make a fortune setting up a cold beer stand at the trailhead.
The only problem with that is they only allow 20 people per day, so not much of a customer base.
