Some of you have incredible detail and good size in you posts. The way I currently am compressing mine, they aren't that impressive when loaded here or in my portfolio.
How do YOU go about reducing these huge RAW files down to under 200kb for posting on this site? How do you get them to end up looking so good? Thanks, Clyde
Hi Clyde. There are at least a couple of ways to size and save for web. I'll give you the method I use. After editing the image and saving the master file, I flatten the file, then sharpen for web via Marc Adamus' sharpening technique {HERE}. After sharpening, I resize to 720 pixels long side, change to 8 bits (Image>Mode>8 bits), Convert to profile (Edit>Convert to Profile> then choose sRGB under Destination Space). Then choose File>Save as. Save as jpeg, and move slider to adjust size to where the file is under 200kb. Voila, you've done it. You can also use Save for Web, which many people prefer over the method I use.
Hi Clyde, I also do basically what Bill does. However I use "save for web" after first resizing to 720 pixels and sharpening for web and converting to sRGB. The "save fro Web" allows an easy slider to get as close to 200K as possible as well as automatically converting to 8 bit. It saves a step. I do find I must constantly remind myself to reset PhotoShop to Adobe RGB or ProPhoto color space for standard editing.
sRGB must be used for web presentation as most browsers do not have the ability to properly display the other color spaces.

Yup! It's in the main "file" menu.
