I like this a lot but it's probably not for everyone.....I might play around with cropping at the top, my sense is that vertical placement of the dark tree is critical.

I like the colors - I think a little more contrast work would do wonders to it as well...

Very nice image, I like even better cropped from the top with no sky showing.

I like it as well but think it is stornger with the sky cropped off and a bit more contrast

I like this one... especially the vertical orientation and strong sense of depth. Maybe the use of a polarizer might might have ":popped" the sky in camera. Perhaps remedy in photoshop?

thank you all for your comments.

i've upped the contrast a bit, but it looks to me like i may have gone too far????

i have played with cropping a bit, but it looks chopped to me, but somewhere just below the pink layers works okay, but i think it loses a lot of depth.

the sky was pretty close to drab grey with a bluish tinge and i've 'popped' it as much as i'm inclined to do and not feel like i'm changing what was there. i recall being a bit annoyed at the time that the sky was like that just over the hills, but that's what it gave me. i did use a polarizer to help saturate.

i've cooled it off a bit too as it was looking a bit on the orange side. i think the hills in the back could stand a bit of warming though. the dark rimrock bothers me a bit too, i'll eventually try to bring that up a bit.

thanks

This works just fine for me as-is, Mike. Great find here. Love the layers, colors and patterns. Nice balance to the scene.

great job bringing out the colors in this scene. the tree is well-placed in the frame. no nits here.

FYI: It's preferred practice to leave the original image up when you repost, so we can all compare the different versions.

Cropping out the sky doesn't really work with this comp. The sky is weak but the rest of the photo makes up for it. I love the colors and textures.

Curtis,

i'm not a paying member, so i can't upload any images, however i guess i could post links to past versions of the images.

thanks for all the input.

on a side note i've printed this at 12x18 and it's disappointingly unsharp, but i don't think anyone but photographers care that much

thanks again
