Room with a view
Above Lost Lake, Weminuche Wilderness

I spent last week down in the San Juans and got to explore several places I'd never been before. Due to the rain, and hail, and lightning, I spent more time in my tent than I wanted. And good sunrise/sunset light evaded me every day, except the ONE morning I decided to sleep in. Regardless, I enjoyed my time in the mountains (and Bret's company) and think I came away with a few keepers.

This morning above Lost Lake (near Highland Mary Lakes) followed a night of driving rain and pounding hail with clouds to the East blocking first light. I eventually got some nice dappled light on the Grenadiers, but thought you'd enjoy seeing my primo campsite.

Oh ya, the wildflowers up here were amazing...

And what a view it is!!!! Great perspective Scott. The afternoon storms were pretty heavy when we were there, so car camping was the method of choice.

I really look forward to seeing the first chapter of images after this cool looking introduction.

Tough place to spend an afternoon! I'm really looking forward to getting up in that area someday soon. I woke up in awe every morning on our trip. What an incredible region we live in!

I sympathize about the sunrises. Our first sunrise in Ice Lake Basin I had the alarm set to allow time to hike into the upper basin but the twilight looked overcast and I was still tired from the prior day and decided to sleep in. We ran in to Josh as we were hiking up about 10am (he was heading down) and he told us the sunrise was great! Too bad he'd missed it too. Figures.

Can't wait to see what you came away with!

I'm just glad to hear that the lightning didn't strike too close to you. The night you spent at Ice Lakes Basin I sat in my truck near Red Mountain Pass and watched bolt after bolt striking in the area of Ice Lakes. I'm glad I wasn't up there with you or I likely would have lost my mind with fear!

Very cool image, Scott. Looks like one killer campsite. Can't wait to see some photos from your trip!

Oh wow - that's quite the place to pitch a tent! That might even top the Deep Lake spot we had in the Wind Rivers. Sorry to hear about the sunrises and sunsets, though. And the lightning. Knowing your history with lightning, even if I had been able to come along, I think I would have had to have politely "excused" myself and set up camp a little ways away!

Looking forward to seeing some more of those pics!

Killer place to pitch a tent! What a great view, and cool shot of some of my favorite mountains in Colorado.

Nice view--it looks like the tent was the highest object there

Yeah stormy weather in the Elks last week too. Not much in the way of sunrises/sunsets. Glad to hear you made it ok... your campsite looks sketchy!!!!
