My wife and I + 2 friends visited Chicago Basin by taking the Durango and Silverton train to Needleton and hiking in over the weekend. We had plenty of weather and the mountains won this time. The following images were taken while attempting to climb Sunlight. A variety of factors led us to a turnaround about 50 vertical feet from the summit. We had a great time in spite of the driving rain which started around 1 - 1:30 each day. This image is of a mountain goat on Sunlight's summit ridge with Eolus as a backdrop.

Hi Dan,these pictures take me back-we did the same hike in 1974! There was a blizzard that lasted all night and we barely got out of there alive! Isn`t there a Hazel Lake near Twin Lakes?

50 feet from the summit?! Argggggg....
The goat picture is bitchin! (p.s. - I snowboarded down that couloir on Eolus one time... it's very steep!)
Inspiring views, Dave! The emerald waters of Twin Lakes are gorgeous. Sorry to hear that you had to turn back so close to the summit, but at least you were able to take in some amazing views regardless.

Dave, I think you made the right choice. Even though you weren't able to successfully summit, you brought home some nice photos.
