I am soft-proofing some images (the first time I have ever one this), and am disappointed in the images as they would appear on the paper I am going to use. I have tried correcting the images during soft proofing in many ways, but all of them are subjective. I suspect that several of the colors prevelant in my floral prints are out-of-gamut, but I would at least like to try to achieve as close a match as possible in the print.
My question is: Is there an OBJECTIVE METHOD for color correcting soft proofs?
Epson 3800; Moab Entrada Matte, canned ICC from Moab; HP Pavilion LCD, HueyPro calibrated.

Brian, I can't comment on an objective method of soft proofing, but when I used the canned profile from Moab my results were far from acceptable. That possibly could be your problem. I ended buying a custom profile from Chromix and the results have been wonderful. Unless you're really boosting the saturation a bunch I don't believe you should be having out of gamut problems using the Epson 3800. Are you using Adobe 1998 for your colorspace?
I thought the profiles from Moab were terrible. I got mine from Michael Gordon and everything has been peachy since then. You have to start there as your first step.
I suspected that the canned profiles weren't that great, I think I read something about it here. I'm having the greatest problem with intense, highly saturated cyans and blues. I've got someone in mind to do the profile for me, I'll send it out this week.

After fighting with canned profiles for "eons" I just got back my Chromix profiles and am simply delighted with the results!!

Since I started using Colorbyte profiles for ImagePrint RIP I've had to double-check to be sure I'm actually viewing the soft proof. They're pricy but precise.
