Hi Jaqui, still need to practice I think on that 'pin sharp' focus, Agree with Andy it does look soft and I would clone out the two bits at each corner at foot. Nice try. I see DC is passing on some tips.

Hi Jacqu,

Ita a very nice image, I am assuming the new lens is a Canon 300mm f4, if so it does need to be stopped down at least one stop (i.e. 5.6) for best sharpness, that said all you need here is a touch more USM. The highlights can be toned down in the bg, but probably nore important is toning down the highlights in the perch.

HTH and I like this very much

Thankyou all for your comments :-)

Yes the new lens is the 300f4 lucky for me this dragonfly was still for quiet a while so I was trying out different f numbers etc also with & without an extension tube, not sure if I posted the sharpest shot or not but it's taking me a while to get used to the lens, On close inspection of him his wings were a little ragged,
These gold ringed dragonflies seem to be frequent visitors to my garden so hopefully I will be able to improve next time.

Is this one any better?
