Hi All,

I'm on the look out for a tripod suitable for macro/landscape work. I will be using 20D/5D and a 300mm f4, 70/200 f2.8, also a 16-35mm f.2.8.
I have a ball head but will need a "plate" for mounting to lens.

If anyone has one for sale or advise on the best one to get that would be great.

Also a quick update on my Barn Owl's. Went over tonight and the eldest two a male and female are out of the box and doing short flights from branch to box in the tree :jump:

Regards

The Manfrotto carbon fibre tripods are sturdy and portable. They have a good range of heads and quick release plates. I use a 488RC2 head on a 443 tripod. The whole set up is easy to use and the legs are quickly adjusted.
You may find that a ball head is not the ideal for long lenses again look at the Manfrotto range. Most likely you'll need two heads (better than one) so make sure that they both take the same plate.
If you contemplate going up to a heavier longer lens then you'll need a Gitzo tripod ( about twice the price of the former and one you will not want to use all the time) and at least 501 head

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the info. I do have a G1548 for my 600mm but I would'nt say it's light and portable, so that's why I'm looking at something a bit lighter to walk around with.
