Early Morning with soft light hitting some of the sea stacks at Second Beach. Truly one of the most amazing mornings I have witnessed. It was so beautiful that my brain is still buzzing from the sights, sounds and smells.

This was taken when there was a negative low tide.... the starfish are waiting for the water to come back......

20D and Sigma 10-20mm at 10mm
.5 seconds at f/18.0
2 s-stop Cokin GND's (notice the slight color cast in the skies)

Wow John! This is impressive. The starfish are an awesome addition to a steller shot. I do notice the color cast a bit, an easy fix in the shop though, right?

I've been repeatedly enjoying this on fredmiranda. The fierce and almost univiting aspect of the surf has been a common potrayal around lately; it's nice to see a warm and placid representation of the beach thrown in the mix.

Very bold and colorful! I agree on the color cast - it looks like you were trying to keep the rocks bright by not bringing the split filter down too far, but it leaves a cyan band across the horizon that would be nice to tone down a bit.

Beautiful, John. Super combination of light and contrast. I cannot get over how still the water surface is either.

just gorgeous, John! Wow! Terrific lighting and I think I just love it as is. Morning light! I like the brightness at the horizon, and though I am terrible at judging color casts, I have to say that I appreciate it as part of the morning lighting effect. Looks like the starfish have awhile to wait it out for the sea's return. Oooo, the whole thing is marvelous.

Thank you all for the comments... the color cast is greatly diminished here but I decided to not take it all out - I then get into competing versions of white cloud and I liked the reddish glow myself. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone.....

John, this is totally awesome! Catching a pool of water inland at the beach like this is a rare find! Good thing you had the presence of mind to click the shutter in the face of this stunning sight :toast: :toast:

John, just beautiful. And I'm with ya on the color. I think it's a natural cast anyway...which is great.

i like the shot a lot, but the color cast does bother me as it's not in the reflection and the sky is a bit darker than the reflection too.

it's your choice on that though

great shot really

i can't wait to get back there later this year.
