As nature photographers one of the less frequently used aspects of photography is lighting. We nature photographers tend to rely on available light and only rarely will we use flash/strobes etc. If you want to expand your knowledge on lighting and don't have a pile of unused cash sitting around gathering dust (cuz a set of pro strobes can set ya back a cool grand including stands/umbrellas/power source...) then the below website just might meet your need for solid immediately usable knowledge on a budget:

Enjoy!!

And oh yeah - I'm healing up quite well although quite slowly. Living day to day with the mindset of not picking up anything heavier than an apple is certainly an "adjustment" and I run out of "go" a lot sooner than I'd like. Overall I'm doing fine all things considered. Thanks folks for the kind words and support!!

David Hobby from Strobist.com is coming to Seattle Aug 18th and 19th. Seminars are already booked, but if any of you have already purchased a seat for either Sat or Sun, I will see you there.

I love the strobist... they have a very active group on Flickr.com and his blogs have tons of information. I've used a lot of his cheap lighting tool tips for a couple of years.

Rick,
Thanks for the info. on the lighting. Glad to hear you are doing better. Nine days is a long time to be in the hospital. It's been almost 10 weeks since my surgery and I still can't do heavy lifting (or golfing). They freaked me out about the possibility of an incisional hernia.
