Taken from the vehicle as per usual.
D2xs + 600mm AFS II + 1.4 conv.
Taken in evening light.
On a sad note learnt today that one of the young from this bird was found to day as roadkill less than 1/2 mile away from this site.
The bird had obviously been ringed, but it just goes to show how fragile these birds can be. It seems such a total waste after all that time to finish up in such a sad way.

Hi Major,

Very sad news indeed, but a harsh reality for Barn Owl's both adult's and young I'm afraid.

A nice image showing the male bird with an unusual prey item!!

How many did this pair have?? Do you know if they are trying a second brood elsewhere?
Apparently Vole numbers and Vole weights are very good this year, I have a feeling my pair have a second brood as I have only seen the male for the last 3 weekends but I have seen him taking food elsewhere, but don't know where yet!!

Regards

Rob

Yes, demonstrating yet again what a harsh world it is.
Interesting shot.
