Belt of Venus
The Belt of Venus rises over the Tatoosh Range observed by a captive audience of summer wildflowers (and enough mosquitoes to drain the blood from a yak).

I went up into this area twice to capture this view. I missed the best of the golden light splashed across the range on the first night, but got the pink glow. On the second, the wind was just too strong to get a sharp photo with the wildflowers in the frame...

Beautiful array of color and depth. Are those mosquitos or sensor dust that I am seeing, speckling the sky?

Probably mosquitos! I was up there last weekend and they are thick. Yep, "enough of 'em to drain blood from a yak." LOL. That's for sure! But the wildflowers have come on strong in just a week. This is great. Good work Mike!

D'oh! Yep, that's sensor dust--I forgot to clean that up--easy enough. But I do have more than a handful of shots with a blurry mosquito on the lens. After the ordeal at Jefferson Park, I treated my Girlfriend's hiking gear with permethrin (It stays in for several washings, but doesn't smell.) and we both got head nets. Seems to be a good combination. No bites have yet been detected from this trip. :toast:

Man this is nice. Trevor and I were shooting at that exact spot with the waning light of the evening today, and we were both bummed out that the whole area was clouded over (we fortunately got a break a little earlier which produced some good color). This is the sort of thing I really wanted today. Great shot.

This is really great! Those flowers are awesome. Is this up Mazama?

This is excellent, imho!

It's up on the skyline trail at Mount Rainier National Park! I'm not sure this is technically still Mazama Ridge up here--I'd have to check my topographic map, but it's along the East side of the Skyline trail. Better get while the gettin's good. I'm heading back up tonight to do another trip through the Paradise area and to hit the East side by Tipsoo lake and Naches Peak. I'd like to head up by Mystic Lake but I don't know how much hiking that will be since the Carbon River road is closed just inside the park.

WOW,
I've been real impressed at the high quality of images that have been posted on the forum as of late. This is no exception. Excellent!

This is an awesome image Mike! If I can get up to Rainier next weekend I want to see about checking out this area. Honestly this is one of my favs of Rainier out of the recent posts here. I can stare at it for quite a while just enjoying this virtual view.

Nice, Mike! One of the better angles of the Tatoosh Range, and the wildflowers are spectacular - I don't recognize the yellow flower... almost looks like a yellow lupine..?
