Finally found some sunflowers
I had to drive 150+ miles from home today, but by golly - I finally found a sunflower field, south of Concordia, right off Highway 81. A nice State Trooper pulled up behind me to see if I was ok or had car trouble, and when he saw my camera, said he'd taken some shots over around Beloit somewhere of sunflowers (but commented his camera wasn't nearly as nice as mine!) I'll probably be posting several shots to the flora forum over the next couple of weeks, as I think I got some nice material. Let me know what you think of this one.

Canon Rebel XTI, handheld
Promaster 70-300 mm @ 96 mm
ISO 100, F16 @ 1/80

Very nice, Angela. I've been wanting to find some sunflowers myself, but I'm a bit reluctant to drive several hundred miles "just to look around". If you find any more fields would you let us know?

Pretty shot Angela. I too have been wanting to go find some - but it's so stinking hot to do it right now. At least the trooper didn't cite you for stopping along the highway.

A nice find Angela. There are a few sunflowers growing at my local conservation area, Burr Oak Woods, but they are not getting very tall. I guess I need to start watering them if it does not rain soon.

That's a lot of driving to find a field of sunflowers. There aren't any aroung here either this year (at least not planted ones). I think we can blame that on ethynol production and lots of corn.

Hi Angela, glad you found some sunflowers considering all the effort you put into it! First of all I'm impressed with the condition of these sunflowers, they are in very good shape (no signs at all of critters gnawing on them). You've got a nice comp here and I like the flowers trailing oof as they move front to back. I am a little surprised that there isn't more dof given your shooting specs. Looks like a circular polarizer might have given you a bit more punch to the colors here too. Looking forward to seeing more! :wavey:
