Hi everyone. Just returned home to Laramie today from a family vacation to southwestern Colorado - 4 nights in Pagosa Springs and 3 in Durango. This part of the state never ceases to amaze me. My first-ever trip to the Sand Dunes was with my 10-month and 3-year old girls so unfortunately all photographs were within a few minutes of the barely existent river and far away from the dunes. Still, I am incredibly intrigued by this place! I've rarely encountered a more photographic destination, and have never been anywhere more suited to black and white photography. I lucked into some excellent lighting and cloud formations and have a few images to share. I've decided shots these look much better as B&W so I converted them in Photoshop using the channel mixer, curves, and levels. I sincerely hope to return to the Dunes someday for a more serious photographic project. Thanks for looking!
Brett

You've captured some fine images of my favorite place in Colorado. Although they all give a great feel for the place, the first image is absolutely outstanding - simply breath-taking! I'm speechless...

Nice! Good use of the clouds. This is definately a place worth exploring.
Good use of B&W and I like the light/shadows. The 1st shot is a really nice comp, but the top of the dune dissapears into the shadow, which is kind of troublesome.

All are very interesting. The contrast is very striking on the first one. The comps on the other two are excellent too.

Hey Brett - nice shooting on all 3. That first one though is epic! The guy in the foreground really highlights the magnitude of the landscape, and the combination of contrast and the cloud is incredible. I share your appreciation of the place; I've never made it far into the dunes - every few feet presents a new composition...

Excellent lighting and cloud cover to enhance your B&W experience! I like.

Brett, that first pic is fantastic. The light and shadow, and the scale imparted by the people are what put this over the top.
