I've been watching this site for a couple of years and been amazed/intimidated by the quality of the work posted here.

I guess that Landscape is my best subject though I have been interested in wildlife for many years.

Having very recently acquired a Canon 500mm f4 I have found it quite a beast to get to grips with. Main problem I have had is taking pictures of subject that are simply to far away.

Discretion being the better part of valour I decided to try a few shots in the garden.

Canon 5D 500mm 1/100 f4 Some cropping but little else.

Hi Paul

Excellent pose - nice shot. I think that the BG colour detracts a bit though (unless it's sky and my monitor is seriously out of kilter!) - out of curiosity what is it? I think that you're being hard on yourself though - the garden is a great place to get shots of such small birds, and at least no-one will 'acquire' your hide.

Thanks for the welcoming comments. The background is in fact ivy leaves which are quite distant. The foreground is in the shade and the background full sunlight which was very strong at the time.
