Not knowing much about Video Cameras I am hoping to get some feedback from those of you who have some experience with them...

Thanks in advance for any info you can share!

Anyone have one?

Which one?

Do you like it?

What do you like about it?

What format are you using?

would you by the same brand again??

Darren,

It would help a bit to know what you want to do with a video camera? Family shoots, serious wildlife shoots, documentaries, etc? That way we can make sure we're talking about the same level of cameras and not an apples to oranges situation.

Best regards,

Paul

Darren, I had a video camera years ago. After a while I decided that still photography was best for me. I did learn a few things about photographing with a video camera. Number one: use the video camera the same as you would an ordinary SLR camera. Have it on a tripod. Second: do not move the camera while shooting. I see too many dizzying shoots from amatuers. Third: note what professional videographers are doing. For example, they never zoom in on a subject. Just the opposite in fact. They always zoom out. That adds interest to the video. For example, you show a tight close up of a glacial lily, then slowly zoom out to reveal it was one of a myriad of other lilies that carpets an alpine meadow. Fourth: composition is every bit as important as it is with still photography.

There is no video camera I know of that can match the photographic quality of a good SLR wether digital or film.

Hello Darren,

Choosing a video camera - actually a Video Suite is far more complex than choosing an SLR. Coming up with an engaging 5 minute clip is more complex than a half hour photo slide show. For a useful answer it is important to know what you would like to use it for.

Hi Will,

"There is no video camera I know of that can match the photographic quality of a good SLR wether digital or film."

For your interest, please check www.red.com => if you can afford it, the video camera seems to match a DSLR. But then with that you wouldn't want to take still pictures

Cheers,
Rajesh
