Star Trails Over Hood
This is just for fun, I was just fooling around last night, the mountain finally came out from behind the clouds of course well after sunset. Anyway with a moonless night and the fog over Government Camp I thought I would try some star trails, usually don't try these because of the long exposure noise but I thought what the heck. I was able to get away with 15 minute exposures with no noise at ISO 100.

Anyway, just some fun.

I like it. Nice variation of dark and light. You'll need to give it another go with a longer exposure next time to really exaggerate the trail.

Is that glow from the highway and Government Camp?

Cool & fun image, pretty amazing 'bout the noise. Canon sure has that over Nikon's head...

The lights are from government camp and the highway, yes. I'll definitely try some longer exposures next time.

Sweet Shot, Zack... I'm thinking of going up there Sat or Sunday night to try to catch some meteor showers....

That is a fun shot. I have done a few long exposure images for star trails in the 15 min timeframe. They came out ok, but I did have some noise.

I'm amazed that you had enough light for such an exposure at ISO100, with no moon. I've done 6 hours on Provia 100 with no moon, at F4. The image is nice, but I do find the lights below on the mountain a bit strong. Good experiment shot none the less.
