I'm heading up to Lyman, WY on Saturday for a tractor pull that my step-Dad competes in. On Sunday, I am planning on coming home the long way via Flaming Gorge and Steamboat.
Any suggestions for worthwhile locations around the gorge or along the route through Steamboat? I don't know whether I'll get out for sunrise, so good daytime locations would be nice too.
Thanks!

The Gates of Lodore looks interesting in the Photographing the Southwest book (I really need a second set of these books for reference at work). I'm not sure how convenient these are in relation to your drive home. Rabbit Ears Pass wildflowers are probably done now, but last year there were some good shots of those. I'm guessing that you are routing down CO 9 through Frisco, and if so you'll pass the Gore range and the ten-mile range. That would include Mayflower Gulch as a short side trip. However, if your timing is anything like mine, you'll pass these interesting areas in the worst possible lighting.

Thanks, Mel. I'll take a look in the book. I always forget about the books that I have...
Gates of Lodore is pretty interesting but is north facing so it might not get great light. I would image it is a sunset picture, though I have never photographed it. You can get to it fairly easily from the flaming gorge area. driving north on 191 take a right on a gravel road just as you get into Wyoming. This road will take you through Jesse Ewing Canyon. It has some really bad washboards but is doable in a small car. Do not however try this road if it has rained. The first part of the road is in the Hillard shale and you will slide all over the place. Once you get into Colorado the road becomes paved again. I believe Utah will pave their part of the road in the next few years.
Red Canyon would be worth looking into as well. Its an overlook shot, an old canyon that is now a lake...
Further west is the sheep creek geologic loop, given good lighting it could make for some interesting photographs. I wouldnt go too far out of my way for it though.
That is all that comes to mind at present, enjoy!
