As always, I'm waaaay behind on processing my images. Scanning just takes so darn long, and its so nice out this time of year! Anyhow, this was from very early spring, just as the first buds were beginning to appear on the trees. You can actually see the buds on the 4x5 transparency, but that detail is obviously lost in a web sized version. I'd had the concept for this shot in mind for some time. The river is generally glassy smooth in this section, and I just needed some decent light and some complimentary clouds. So, on this particular day I set up my view camera (as the clouds were looking good) and waited some time for the right moment to fire off the shutter. I took a couple of different shots, this one being my favorite. Enjoy and I hope everyone's having a great summer!
Hey Joel - I like this one, and would like it even better seeing the detail you mention. The light looks a littel harsh on the trees, but that might be a scanning issue. The clouds are great, and I like the bit of "opposite" shoreline in the distance that gives this a nice sense of depth....
Thanks for your thoughts CJ. I could tone down the bright spots, but I thought it lost the sense of light to some extent. I'll have to mess with it in print some most likely. None of the highlights are actually blown, so it's just a question of how to render it. Thanks!
Joel, yeah, I didn't mean to imply any blown highlights, etc just that getting that part "right" - whatever that means - in a print will probably be a bit tricky. Your comment about how to render it is exactly what I'm thinking.....
Just an FYI for anyone viewing - I refined the processing, so if you hit refresh on your browser, the newer (and hopefully improved) version should display.

Looks good to me, Joel. This will make a pleasing print. There isn't anything to nit about the image is a wonderful example of spring in the midwest. Great clouds, too and the bud details would be nice to see.
