A portable hard drive that is battery powered, AA batteries preferred.
It should be solid and ruggedly-built, accept both CF and SD digital media, and no frills needed such as a preview screen. Utilitarian and dependable. No less than 40G capacity.
Oh, and it should not cost an arm and leg, >$300
I have a 3-week canoe trip where I will need to store large amounts of image data from both my Canon 5D and SD cards from an HD video recorder.
Look for a CompactDrive PD7X or PD70X. Sound like just what you're looking for. I use the former and it has worked well for me so far. Batteries don't last very long so I only use them in a pinch.
Thanks for the heads-up, Guy. I did notice that when I placed the order and I ultimately chose the 60GB option.

The HyperDrive. They dl a 1 gb card in about 45 seconds. and cost about 200. I bent the pins on the flash reader on my 1st time out by being careless but fixed it eventually and haven't had problems since.
I have the 160 GB Hyper drive Space. Love it. $359. smaller ones are less. Comes with all the card reader slots. Came with all sorts of adapters for power includign AA, Car and an international plug adapter kit. Normally I charge it by the wall aoutlet but it will charge via your usb cable as well. Hypwe drives are the fastest card reading unita I know of.

I found them to be very poor with communication, but the unit arrived as advertised, in a timely fashion. I have been totally psyched with it.

The AA batteries are preferred because I can take a couple dozen of them with me and use them on both the HD and my handheld GPS unit.
