Greater Kudu, photographed towards the later part of the afternoon in Kwetsani (Botswana Delta). A formidable beast with these fantastic 'corkscrew' antlers. Just a shame about the blades of grass over his face.

Love the light here..superb, but not overly keen on the pose. When I've seen them they're very regal and there head is very upright. Was this eating something?

That's obviously a personal thing Stephen and besides the pose it's a cracking image for me :toast:

Spot on Graeme. he had been eating before being disturbed by a rather noisey landrover and the sound of an eager shutter being fired off. Thanks for the time.

Hi Steve

The light really makes this shot, lovely warm evening colours and the eye contact really makes it work. Nice. :toast:

cheers

Stunning light Steve, but I'm with Graeme here, not overly keen on the pose and I'm not enamoured with the grasshead bisecting the kudus' face.

But for atmosphere this image has it in spades :wavey: :wavey:

Fantastic lighting although I do find the image a little tight in the frame!

Thanks Andy and agree totally, hence my comment in the original posting. Sadly walking over and moving it was not an option. I would love to know how the pros do it. I can only assume they move round or do not post an image like this?

David, in the original the Kudu was slap bang in the middle of the frame. I just repositioned the crop, to try and improve the composition. Something I must always remember! :jump:

Stephen - if I'd been there I'd have rattled off a stack of frames and hung around until the animal gave me the pose I liked - surely he must have lifted his head sometime in five or ten minutes

Having said that I don't know the circumstances under which you took the image - never been to Africa but I can imagine getting the whirlwind hurry up from a guide so perhaps this was a grab shot??

As I said before tho - the atmosphere in the image is superb :toast:

Light is spectacular. This photo would only need scissors to improve (to cut out the grass just in front of it's face, as you pointed out).

Cheers,
Marko

A bit tight for me also Stephen, but an impressive beast and cracking light.
