Spotted Flycatcher
Taken last month in a friend's garden when despite all the rain the pair fledged four young.

Now you are just showing off

You get a brilliantly detailed Flycatcher at a great angle:frown:
Eating lunch too :frown:
You get the perfect perch :frown:
You even get a nice flower to add a touch of class to it all:frown:

SIMPLY OUTSTANDING  :jump:

Nice pose David and I love the background, however I do find the flowers a distraction to a very pleasing image. A bonus to have something in the beak too!

Not too sure about the flower but a super image - do I detect a tad of fill flash?

Great photo of a wasp - the bird isn't bad either

Seriously though - outstanding image David

Hi David a very nice image of the spotted. The wasp in the beak is obviously a nice plus. I do feel though that the flower does take the attention away from the bird. :toast:

An absolute belter. As for the flower I don't have a problem with it but perhaps trimming an inch off the bottom may improve the balance.

Oh if I ever get one as good as this........

Hi David. This really is a beautiful photograph. It has great interest throughout with food in the bill, a cracking pose, great depth of field, perfect exposure, diffused background, attractive lichen covered perch, and the alkanet just sets it all off! Fantastic :toast: :toast:

Hi Andy

Re 'fill flash' this was not used. I was a little surprised at how vibrant the image was but I think this can be attributed to a fairly light coloured natural stone house to my right reflecting light onto the bird!

Hi a very nice image the only negative for me is that the flower draws my attention away from the bird.

Phillip.

Lovely photograph, as with others my nit would be the blue flower competing for attention.

Hi David,

I actually like the added interest of the flower. With a bit more rooom above the bird's head, it would make a great cover shot

Great work.

Wow, they don't come better than this. Its a winner!

Great image. The bird with wasp and the blue flower are both powerful images in their own right. I think an inch off the bottom as Paul suggests would balance them perfectly.

Hi David

Cracking image. :toast:

Not sure about the flower, maybe more of a distraction than than an enhancement to the image, when I first look at the photo my eye is drawn to both the flower and the bird.

However this is still a super shot, the light is fantastic, as is the detail and pose of the bird.

Great work, and I think I have seen a preview of another RSPB 'Birds' front cover.

cheers

I like it (a lot!) just the way it is - while you naturally focus on the flycatcher, the flower adds more interest to the picture, making it stand out from similar shots. I am very impressed by the sheer quality of this image, absolutely fantastic!

I think this is a real stunning and eye-catching shot.
Totally agree with Mark that the flower really puts this above the norm. and adds an extra element of interest.
