Stonechat Male

The Male of that male/female partnership on a rock. The male was a lot less obliging in terms of approach.

600mm/TC2/Tpod
F8/125'/250ASA
70% of complete frame/Very little PS just sharpening and dust spotting

I find out, that with most songbirds, males are usually more approachable, and that mirrors your experience.

It's obvious that now we are deep into breeding season, as feathers of this chap are quite worn out. Otherwise it's a fine photo. I especially like lichen covered rock.

Cheers,

Nice photo Tom,

How's the 600mm working out for you?

I am happy with the change; I have always said that I would move back to a 600mm if the opportunity arose as it suits me better, but thats me not everybody.

Will pen some further thoughts later.

I like the setting in this shot Tom {a bit different from the normal 'top-of-twig' image}.

I agree the plumage it a bit ragged, although i does help to bring out some detail in the blacks {a problem i recently faced with a male}.

Nice one!!
