So the PC crashed a couple of weeks ago... download new BIOS (against my better judgement) and it went belly up. Now I've got a freshly loaded system with WinXP. Fortunately I was able to save all my files by moving the drive to another PC and copying to yet another new drive.
The good news is now I have a second 250G drive in my PC. The question is, which drive should I specify in Photoshop for the scratch drive? Of course PS is installed on the C: drive. For now my image files are located on the new D: drive. Should the scratch drive be the opposite of the program files or the image files I'm working on? Does that make sense?
Many will redefine the location of their MyDocuments folder to the D drive in any case, just in case you have to reformat the system drive. Since Windows typically grabs space on the system drive for its cache drive, it doesn't make sense to locate the PS scratch drive on the same busy drive. Put it on the D, unless the D is much slower in performance specs than the C, in which case C may be better after all.
Your scratch drive should not be your Windows cache drive so if Windows uses C for its virtual memory, make D your PS scratch.

I'm not near as computer literate as many here but when I added my second internal drive (160 GB) I partitioned it with the smaller being 15 GB and I used that "drive" for the scratch drive. So far it has worked fine.

Don't think it matters, but I'm still on PS 7.0.
Thanks!
