Common Darter in flight
20D, 300/4 + 26mm ext, ISO400, 1/640 @ f7.1, Manual Exposure, Incident reading, MN Carbon One + BH1, ACR4.1 + CS3.

Hi,

Treated myself to a long weekend, so headed off this morning to a local reserve where there is always a good population of Common Darters.

All the best

Phil

Nice one Phil - I tried a few of these shots last year without getting a keeper!

so that's how it's done, put me in my place anyway
I think the motion in the wings is awesome. :toast:

Nicely taken Phil,

I also had a brief try at these chaps in flight recently, but no keepers either :frown:

Superb image Phil, have never tried inflight shots with extension tubes, thought you would lose auto focus with the 300/f4

Great catch Phil, I must make some time and get out with the camera before its too late for this season's 'flies..
Best wishes

Excellent in-flight shot with just the right motion in the wings. :toast: :toast:

Wow, I love it, that bit of blurr just 'makes' the shot. Lovely and sharp otherwise too. This is NOT easy, I know.

An absolutely cracking shot Phil.

Migrant hawkers are challenging enough but you have gone and raised the bar with this much smaller subject. For me the trick to get them just as they are about to land, as they have a habit of hovering for a short time before they settle.

Not sure if I'll get a chance to "compete" this season as I have had some serious lens problems this year and only have a 17-40 and 105mm macro. Still could be just the challenge I need

Hi Phil

A very tricky shot to pull off (I know, having tried and failed many times....). Lovely and sharp, great colour and detail. Spot on flight shot. Well done. :toast:

cheers

That's a great shot; the blur is just right and the colours are fantastic.

Hi Phil,
Superbly captured :toast: :toast:
I was watching the same scenario just yesterday, unfortunately watching was as far as I got, your result inspires me to have a go next time.
