I haven't posted a pic for some time. Here is something a little different. The quality is not brilliant - I am experimenting with these shots at the moment.
EOS1DSII 180mm Macro, three extension tubes, shot from underneath in small plastic box.
The wasp is 4mm long and has hatched from a paratisized Fox moth caterpillar that I have had. The larvae of the wasp feed inside the caterpillar effectively eating it alive. They then spin small white cocoons around the caterpillar and emerge 2-10 days later. The caterpillar at this stage dies.
Unusual angle Andrew, and i guess shooting through plastic is the only option for this view.
Not sure if it works as well as it potentially could , and i can't offer any suggestions.
As posted, it reminds me of a 'specimen' image {ie: through a microscope etc}, as there is no visible reference to its tiny size, and also the scratches on the plastic give it that type of look.
Personally, i think a more conventional view/ setting {even if it was in a controlled enviroment} would be more effective as an image.
As you say, it is an experiment, and well done for trying something different.
