Last Climbing photo
This woman, Molly, climbed the hardest route of the day, 5.12c without falling.

I didn't have a tripod and this shot is impossible in one exposure since the rock is dark and the sky is so bright. I took two shots, handheld, exposing for the sky and then the rock. In PS I did an Auto-Aling and then used a gradient mask to ease the dark/light edge of the rock.
Ryan's Double Mat action makes it look pretty slick, eh?

That's a fine looking double mat! You did a good job combining the images. The clouds look a little blown out on my monitor, but I'm slacking at work so it isn't calibrated. A good climbing shot.

This has enough drama that I didn't notice the high contrast until I read Ryan's post. Looks like one of those shots that could sport the "Hang in there!" comment. Seriously though, I think the composition works very well.

P.S. Your coffee at Govy General saves my butt when I run training camps at Hood. Thanks for stepping that town up a notch! Do sell any coffee in Bend?

dang, i thought i posted here, but i said something like it's kind of a static pose for climbing, but considering that it's 2 shots, i can't see having her pose too long on a 12c so guess it will have to do :toast:

Thanks,
Hans, no nothing in Bend, you could order it via the internet and we'd UPS it down to you.

Michael, I don't have them pose at all and she actually moved her arm from one photo to the other. Since I'm not using the climbing side of the cloud shot, it doesn't matter if she moved or not.

i didn't mean to imply they were posed, just the position she was in was a little static, that's all. i wouldn't ask a climber to pose either.

Neat shot, Mark. You displayed the perspective very effectively.

Mark, nice shot. That's good blending work for two handheld shots. The focal length gives enough detail to the climber, but shows the scale of the face she is climbing well.

pretty neat, i like the splayed out pose. could be interesting in B&W if you darkened it to a doom look and then dodged the hell out of the human
