Haven't been out much lately as I've spent the last couple of weeks setting up my new website (I can highly recommend Photium, brilliant!). Anyways I managed to get out at the weekend and whilst driving home I spotted this Curlew down at the waters edge. So I drove the car down onto the beach, parked up and waited for him to walk in my direction. I couldn't get as close as I would have liked hence using the 2xtc.
L'Eree Beach, Guernsey. Canon 500mm f/4L IS with 2x and 1D MarkII N. ISO 100, 1/200 sec. at f/10 in Av mode, beanbag from car. Slight crop, levels and sharpen.
Thanks.

Hi Paul
A very nice shot of the Curlew. Image quality looks good even with 2x TC, maybe a fraction over bright, I would experiment with toning down the midtones a fraction.
cheers

Thanks Sean, how do I go about doing that in PS?

Hi Paul
Lots of ways to tackle this but the common method is to tweak the levels sliders about a bit. For this shot I pulled in the black and white point a bit, and then adjusted the mid-tone slider until the contrast looked about right.
The difference is only subtle but you could experiment with this to see what look you prefer.
Interesting exercise for me too as the differences are far more noticeable on my calibrated CRT than on my cheaper LCD monitor.
Here's a screenshot, have fun.
cheers

Beautiful image. Curlews always make me think of winter, so good to see one in the sun!
