Well, with a 3 month old little boy at home, I haven't gotten out to shoot too much lately. So heading down to Hermit Pass this weekend was a real treat. I've been there a couple times before, and it honestly ranks up there as one of my favorite spots. Plenty of variety, from nice lakes, some great streams and waterfalls, and plenty to shoot above tree line.
Hung out with my good friends Glen and Darren K. We had a great time, got quite wet, had lots of fog, and loved every minute of it! We even drove up the infamous South Colony Lakes road, and did the hike into the lakes. Awesome area also!
I'll post a full trip report later, but for now here are some pics!
The creek that feeds Hermit Lake, just as the fog was settling in. Soon the rain started, and we got drenched on the short hike back out!

Hey buddy, buy a bubble level! I love both shots, despite their CW lean. I was going to join you guys (as I said in the now-lost-in-cyberspace e-mail I sent you), but after going to a movie with the mrs., I just didn't feel like bouncing up that damn road, then bouncing back down it Sunday morning to get home in time for my NASCAR boys to take the green flag. Did you guys make it up to the Hermit Peak summit? Judging by the weather I saw in that direction, it would've been a suicide mission! Spend any time on the pass itself?
This was our sunset Saturday night. Fog, fog, and then some more fog. Very cool though! This image is kinda weird. First off, its shot with a 15mm lens, second, the hill does actually make a big slope off to the left. Thoughts?

Where are the S. Colony Lakes pix?

Brent the last one still trips me out with angle and all. As always I think 4x5 looked better in person the other day.

Coooool. Looks like you guys had a great time.

Fantastic conditions and you definitely made the most of it. The 3rd one here is flat out gorgeous! And that last one is just trippy - I get wobbly just looking at it. I'd definitly keep it around in the portfolio - it's an attention getter for sure!

I love the colors in the second shot. Looks like you had fun!

Thanks for the great photos and report - and lots of other great shots via your link above!
Todd, funny you should mention bubble level! All weekend while shooting with the Rebel, I would compose, then step back and notice the camera was quite off level! I must have a crooked left eye! If I continue to shoot with that DSLR, I'll definitely invest in a bubble level! However, both shots you commented on were with the 4x5! DOH! I guess I'm more "unleveled" than I thought!
As far as Colony Lakes images, not too much to show. It was overcast most of the hike, and I only carried the Rebel and my point and shoot. On top of that, I wasn't feeling all that good most of the hike, so kind of a mood killer! definitely want to get back up there though! What a place! Even if the road is a bit rough!

Good to see you out shooting Brent! Amazing light and conditions had to be refreshing. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jesse! I had your Colony Lakes trip report printed out and along with us! Thanks!
Totally forgot to answer your other question Todd. We did make it up to the pass on Saturday AM, nice and sunny. The plan had been to shoot sunset form the summit that night, but the weather had other plans for us. Fog, fog, and more fog. So, we shot those flowers at sunset instead!
To be totally honest though, I'm not sure I would have made it up there anyway! After driving the rough Hermit Pass road twice, the even rougher Colony Lakes road up and back, then the hike to the lakes, then a mile + round trip in the rain to shoot the stream near Hermit Lake, I was beat!!!! I know, I know, wimpy! Next time though!!!!
