I have the opportunity to show this image at a Washington State Tourism convention in a few weeks. Do you think I should make it a bit lighter/brighter?

thanks,

Personally, I wouldn't make this one lighter. I really like it the way it is, but that is my taste. A wonderful shot.

Kevin, it really looks great as is. But to utilize the full dynamic range of the print/ink combination, set a lower white point. I opened this in PS and in the levels dialog, slid the white point about 10 to the left. That makes it jump out a little more without losing any saturation in the midtones.

This is a really well thought out composition by the way. A great picture.

Personally I would open up the FG a little.

Gorgeous shot, absolutely gorgeous. I might bring up just the reflection of the rock in the lower third (of the photo) I'd like to see a bit more of the majestic rock reflected all the way.

Great work

Kevin - you sure did some great work, here.. I agree with Mark about the foreground...

Well, it looks like I'm in the minority, but I like it dark as is, but my style is dark rich tones. Beautiful photo!

I like it as it is. I don't see any need to change it.
Plus, I like the dark tones also.

thanks for the input everyone. I won't have control over the printing for the conference, so I will likely make it a little lighter to be safe. If I could ensure that they would retain detail in the foreground, I'd probably leave it darker. Thanks again.

I see you're using the newly-acquired 5d well. Shot really exudes the second beach atmosphere: great light, pools, fauna and stacks. The starfish really presents a color contrast to the rest of the scene. Really like how the pool's edge connects the stack and starfish; masterfully composed! I might crop a little bit from the bottom, but it is fine as is.

I personally like this as is. It's a great image all around Kevin. The darker FG does not bother me on this piece.

No, I don't think brighter. The mood is perfect for WA State ocean beaches: wild, changeable, magnificent. Print it "life size," show it off, and then tell everyone this happens only once during each summer so we can keep our beaches wild. Tell 'em it took you several weeks of surviving treacherous, pummeling summer storms to catch this one break between weather systems.

looks perfect Kevin ( on my mac ) but on my windows monitor it looks a bit dark and more saturated - guess I need to calibrate that POS Dell. A wonderful composition though.
