I sent a link to this radio story to a member here, but got to thinking that maybe just about everyone else would like to hear it as well. I often listen to NPR radio as I drive during the day, and every now & then they come up with some truly first rate stuff! Here's a link to a story about Clyde Butcher that I really learned a lot from. It's half an hour long I think, but every minute is worth it. I never realized just where Butcher was coming from with his photography. The man is amazing! Click on the "listen here" symbol at the top.

Thanks, Kent, great interview. I hadn't known about his son. For anybody who's driven by Butcher's studio on Tamiami Trail in Big Cypress without stopping (I did for years, always in a hurry to be making photos myself), it is well worth a visit. When I finally did stop, my wife wouldn't leave without a print, which now hangs above our kitchen table. I learned from the linked interview that the image we bought, Splendid Isolation, is one of his earliest Everglades black-and-whites.
