I will be visiting Pawley Island at the end of the month. Any good photo ops I should keep an eye out for? Any special local landmarks, wildlife refuge, etc in the general area I need to put on my priority list? Thanks for your help in advance.

John , Huntington Beach State Park that has a Moorish style home called Atalaya Castle
home of Anna Hyatt and Archer Huntington, sculptress and philanthropist, . Also has fine bird watching and wildlife areas.
Brookgreen Gardens nearby too that they developed has lots of fine classical sculptures and nice natural landscape.

John, I've been to Huntington Beach State Park and to the home. Atalaya has some great photo ops, especially inside if you like old homes. Brookgreen Gardens is good too. This is not to be confused with Hunting Island that Richard frequents...Hunting Island is considerably south, near Hilton Head. You can catch a good sunrise at Huntington Beach SP if you get there in time. Check to see what time the gate opens and be ready. Just as you enter, you will cross a salt marsh where you should be able to get a good sunrise. Explore the other marshy areas too...you will find some interesting stuff. There is a trail that goes through the woods that I was not impressed with, as far as photography is concerned. More mosquitoes than anything else. I did find this interesting area though, with this weird yellow algae. Have fun!

John,

In this area of the coast, there aren't many natural areas that are just "must see" locations. Lots of subtle beauty to be found by just wandering out on the beaches and marshes. Lots of people and development in the area, as well.
