Lightning storms popped up over the Pikes Peak Region last night and put on quite a show. This one, with accompanying heavy rain shaft and rain foot, invaded Colorado Springs.

Nice! A solid addition to the growing collection of lightning shots being posted recently. I wonder if the extreme heat has anything to do with the frequency and intensity of this summer's lightning storms.

Beautiful, How long was your exposure time to catch the strike?

Beautiful, Tom! I was out shooting last night, too. I cloned out the city lights in mine because I don't have a remote cord for my camera (until tomorrow), and you could see a little movement in the lights in mine. I wish I had lights in mine, like yours does, as it makes for a stronger, more contextual shot.

Both of these are fantastic Tom, Todd. It's been a great week for capturing lightning for sure.

Hi folks, I was out shooting across the state yesterday, thus my tardy response. Not sure what to say about the heat and great lightning activity. The slow moving storms, which can allow more time for captures, are definitely a function of a hot ridge of high pressure. The surface heating allow the atmospheric column to be more unstable. But, this storm blossomed after dark. Obviously, I took many more shots than this one. I do not have a remote, so was fortunate with this one, because the shutter was opened shortly before the capture. I attach a failed city lights with lightning strike. The bolt (strike) was awesome, because the strike was downtown, only two miles away from my house. Maybe that's why the lights shook!

That is AWESOME! Have you thought about trying to determine what it hit?
