There will be no more lightning storms this summer.

How do I know this? Through all my recent attempts to capture some of the great lightning storms recently, I didn't own a remote shutter release for my 5D. That meant shooting on bulb, and holding my finger on the camera's shutter button, sometimes for up to five minutes! This inevitably caused any stationary foreground lights to show signs of camera movement, no matter how still I thought I was.
Well, today I took delivery of a Canon TC-80N3 remote controller. I could've just gotten the simple electronic shutter release for $50, but opted instead for the $132 super-gizmo version. This thing does self-timer and long exposure shots up to 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds. And it'll do interval shots and you can dial in how many shots you want to do in a sequence. Or it'll do any and all of these things in tandem. Hell, I might just find out there's a button on this thing that'll wash my car!
Why do I equate this with no more lightning storms? Easy. Now that I've plopped down almost $140 (including shipping) for this nifty little gadget, which will make lightning photography SO much easier, Murphy's Law dictates that I will not have any use for it.
I hope I'm wrong.

Yeah, it usually works that way...get a new toy and then wait forever for the opportunity to use it.
But, when you do use that new remote, I'd be interested in hearing how well it works for you.

Does that mean the lunar eclipse scheduled for the 28th is off too?

Wait a sec! I know how to fix this!
Just push the button that washes your car and it's guaranteed to rain the next day.

No you're right actually. I bought one too last year. Haven't been able to shoot lightning since.
Still I use it all the time when shooting flowers on windy days. And mine does not wash my car unfortunately, but it does dispense beer.

Todd may be wrong....I was just out working on the south end of Pueblo, and saw some pretty good lightning to the south.

Any chance you'd be willing to go buy an air conditioner...?
