Thankfully, I was wrong!
Bob, I went chasing that lightning south of town, and while it was stunningly beautiful, it was a bit sporadic. I headed west of town instead, and caught a few bolts. Not as spectacular a storm as Saturday, or Sunday of last week, but still some pretty awesome, downright evil-looking bolts.

The remote switch works like a dream, btw.

This is kind of a severe crop, so the noise really shows up, but I thought the bolts were cool.

Todd - The second shot is interesting with the way the bolts move but the first shot is simply stunning!

Wow, both are nice, but I concurr with CAZ - that first shot is stunning!

Great shot Todd! Can't wait for your city lights - lightning shot.

No, I do not know what my downtown strike hit with the shaky city lights. I have seen strikes hit transformers and a burst of sparks follows, but never got it on an image.

Todd, the first one is a painting, right? Very cool shot! Love it!!

Great job as usual, Todd!
We were on a call at the State Fairgrounds when I saw the lightning down that way, and figured you'd be out.

There was one bolt, which I didn't catch, that struck somewhere and produced a blue glow on the ground that lasted for about a second. I couldn't see what it hit, but it was pretty freakin' cool to see an afterglow like that.

Gear lust pays off! I love the freaky color of the sky and menacing bolt in number 1. Outstanding!

I'm going to go get one of those thing right now. Beautiful pictures

That first one has big, immediate impact, but I actually like the meandering path of the bolts in the second one. It's like they're dancing.

Don't know if you've ever tried Noise Ninja - I ran that second image through the filter a couple of times this morning and it did a really nice job. It would probably work better to run NN on the full image before cropping, but even on the cropped version it looked pretty good.

Todd, that afterglow you saw was likely a transformer. They don't do too well with several million volts racing through them

Tom: I thought about that, but whatever was glowing was behind a horizon line, out of sight.
Rick: NN is something I've wanted to pick up, just haven't gotten around to it. Sounds like a great, worthwhile program.

Nice! Guess I'll have to break out the digital before our storms stop

Very cool for such a hot subject! Love the centered composition of the 1st one.
