I may head to the park later this week. Anyone know if sky conditions are ok given the forest fires in various places out west?

Sure haven't seen anything worthy of ruling out a trip anywhere in Colorado.

I've noticed that it has often been more hazy than normal this summer around Colorado, but certainly nothing that would cause me to cancel a trip.

I can see up into RMNP from my house - hasn't looked hazy, and there have been some amazingly spectacular sunsets over the past week or so. I'd definitely keep the trip on!

Thanks, guys. I have decided to come. I'll be in the park from Friday to Monday. Silver Saturn Vue suv.

If I arrive pre-dawn on Friday, where is a good spot to head for sunrise and the first few hours (before I get my bearings)...coming in from the east through Estes Park?

Len,

Bear Lake or Sprague Lake are beautiful and easy sunrise locations - literally next to parking areas. If you're up for an easy hike, Dream Lake (accessed from the Bear Lake parking lot) is a great spot as well.

RIck, thanks. From the east entrance, how long does it take to drive to Bear Lake, pre-dawn?

Give yourself 30 minutes. Or, a little more would be better than cutting it too close.
