The Infinite
This is an older image that I once posted on ESS, about a year or so ago. I've reworked it recently and am interested to get some opinions. For me, this image goes far beyond the 'pretty picture', which categorizes a good portion of my work. This is my favorite type of image. It is interpretive and imaginative. Instead of describing the landscape and bringing it to the viewer, it evokes a range of emotions through it's surreal qualities. Something that originates in the minds eye and is difficult to craft.

Marc, this too is my favorite type of landscape. It is ethereal, artful, mysterious and moody. I really love it.

Incredible image! This is my favorite type of landscape as well. I love surreal subjects and atmosphere. This is a perfect example of this kind of image. I love the large rocks on that beach.

You of course have many great images. This is defintiley one of my favs that you have posted. It's one of those images you truly can get "lost" in and start dreaming away. Excellent. Nothing more to add on this one!

Oh yeah, gimme a friken break, Marc!

A lot of your recent color stuff is really, really nice but just not my cup of tea. This one and a few of your other B&W shots are really something different. The others will finance your life but I think it's these that will define you as an artist.

Artist for sure! Fascinating that you can see this in the scene and create it with you talent. I love how the dark FG boulders echo the dark clouds at the top. And the receding rocks draw one right under water.

Man, that's a stunner. So simple but effective. I really like how the subtle streaks in the water match the streaking clouds. A perfect B&W.

I love the mood in this shot. My eye wanders through the rocks and out to sea, and I begin wonder what lies behind the horizon...perhaps a storm.

Definitely an emotional shot. I love the motion of the clouds and ocean and the stillness of the rocks contrasting each other.

It rates way up there on the "cool" factor, however for me that isn't translating into any strong emotional feelings. I like it cropped from the bottom and the top by about 1/8th

I remember this shot Marc. It's very beautiful and truely and difficult type of image to capture, you did great with this. This looks like Oceanside, that cobble beach through the tunnel....?

It's a beautiful and mysterious shot - I love these types of shots as well. No so much for the documenting of a place but of pulling emotion out of that moment in a way you would not see otherwise. Small nit: It's pretty hot in the sky and a bit hot in the water but only in the center region... I'd consider toning that down just a bit if you wish........

Good update, Marc :toast:

I love it. I have taken similar shots, but you got it all perfect on this one, sky, rocks, and motion to evoke feeling and imagination.

John, it's my personal opinion that it is not a detrement nor a technical flaw to have a small amount of true whites and/or blacks in a B&W image. An easy fix, yes, but I enjoy the strong contrasts. Just my opinions. Thanks for commenting and the suggestion.

Images like this are disconcerting yet attractive. It does push a viewer out of the comfort zone by appealing to emotions that not all of us like to admit we have. Definitely among the top images in your catalog.

I love this Marc. It has such feeling, such character, such emotion. The tones from light to dark, and everywhere in between are awesome. The light on the rocks is such a nice touch. Dramatically stylish. A great break from your norm.

Really cool! The longer I look at it, the more apprehensive I feel...like something's going to come at me from the horizon. It's a powerful image!

Very nice B&W, Marc. It does make me stop and ponder the image. These are the types of images I enjoy on the wall in my home, not to say your other work is less. There are images to please the masses, then there's art to please the artist. Man, you set a high bar!
