Amazing how these old trees are an item of beauty to some and passed over by many others. I have several similar images of old trees and really enjoy them very much. This one is captured as good as it gets. To be able to see into the cavities a bit is a very nice addition and not always easily obtainable. This one is perfect in that respect. I might also try a tone down Reno mentions to see if the wood might be enhanced slightly, but I would not trade off the wood tone for lack of visual depth into the cavities as it is. Very nice work here, Preston.

The detail is outstanding on this. If I shot 4x5 sometimes I wonder if I would be shooting different subject matter than I do. Probably.
I think the most interesting aspect of the wood is the three knots in the trunk. Focusing on those three would be quite an interesting abstract.

Preston,
Finally! You got your film processed. I've been anxious to see your images since our trip last month. This is gorgeous. The color appears true to my memory and I love the lines, detail and texture. I also like that you've included a somewhat wider view that includes the texture and irregularities of this juniper in the UL and LR. I know you spent some time with this and it was certainly worth the effort.
Looking forward to seeing some more!

The long lines and the glow from the warm light really makes this one sing. The knots add to the visual complexity and makes this all the more enjoyable for me.
